( blue doesn't tell anyone about the day looming as they come closer to it, it feels--weird, trying to celebrate after everything. so she doesn't remind anyone, and blue expects the day will pass more or less as quietly as every other. so she's not really expecting to wake up to henry nudging her door open, with just about the most ridiculous breakfast spread she could have pictured.
she can't help but laugh as she sits up, shuffling over to make space for him to set up next to her. there's probably a stupidly fond look on her face too, but blue can't for the life of her think of a reason to hide it as she looks at henry. )
[ henry mirrors her laugh with a chuckle. it comes easily. like always, but also like it hadn't in a little while. ]
I don't. And in fact, it's one of my prevailing theories on why you haven't grown tall enough to ride a roller coaster.
[ setting the tray down across the bed, he presses a kiss to her temple and then her cheek and then her nose and then her mouth. a novelty that he would be grateful for every time. smiling softly he quirks an eyebrow. ]
Right, so. I know that this is kind of making it seem like I'm leaning in one direction, but actually - breakfast first or present first?
The usual theory is that I used all my height up growing an attitude instead.
( never proven more than in the way she keeps snarking back at henry even as he starts layering the kisses across her face. blue doesn't really know these days how she managed to go months without kissing him, not now that she gives and gets them so much more freely. )
I thought breakfast was the present? ( blue probably should have known better to be fair, but she's still--not surprised, exactly, but it catches her off-guard just a little. she really had thought that she was going to just...breeze through her birthday without much fanfare.
she's careful when she moves, not to send the tray moving too much that anything spills, but it's very, very necessary that she gets an arm around henry and hugs tight around his waist for a moment. ) Let me see this gift. Then you can help me eat this--mountain.
